I was recommended to Dr. Ashbran by an employee at Irvine Specialty Hospital (Blue Pearl). I had just found out my cat of 15 years had IBD (previously diagnosed), which had progressed to cancer. The staff at NHAH tried their hardest to assist me, and my family with her end of life care while working with Dr. Tanzey at Blue Pearl. Dr. Ashbran sent me and my family a HANDWRITTEN sympathy card. When I worked in a small veterinary clinic in the mid to late 90's, I drafted, and signed the sympathy cards to our clients. This is a hard field to be in, especially during pre and post pandemic. My family and I still joke that if you need a qualified human doctor, call the vet! After the loss of Bella my boyfriend surprised me with another kitten he named, "Willy". Even though I was not financially or emotionally ready for another animal, Dr. Ashbran and the staff have been super helpful, patient and responsive to my concerns. Please be patient and kind to any employee in the Veterinary field - most of the negativity that occurs in this field is out of care, concern, and compassion for your "fur baby". Most importantly, use common sense. I definitely recommend Dr. Ashbran and NHAH!

Do not go here. They will nickel and dime you on the invoice. Lots of hidden charges.Very expensive place and it’s nothing great or special. One kid that worked there in the front said my dogs were going to die!! He was so mean with an attitude. The Management has the same nasty attitude . I was a customer here NOT ANYMORE!!The front office staff and the doctors are always changing over. Which says a lot! NHAH is way overpriced for the service they give. Save your money and go somewhere else. I would never recommend this place .

I'm deeply saddened and disappointed by the way my senior dog and I were treated at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital these past few days. The front office staff were discourteous, unempathetic, bent the truth, and were more focused on their own feelings than those of my distressed pet. They lacked attention to detail and neglected to address the concerns about the severity of my pet's pain. Even the vet who treated my pet - Dr. Osborne - was condescending and appeared more interested in her treatment plan and diagnosis than the well-being of my dog, She additionally brushed off any input I had about my 16 year dog and admittedly failed to conduct a thorough examination of her, therefore unable to adequately gauge my pet’s pain level. Dr. Osborne also provided me with contradictory information about my pet's condition. She advised me to take my pet immediately to the neurologist (she did tell me to make an appointment but didn't sound urgent about it) if case worsened, but then condescendingly contradicted herself by asking if “I remembered” that the treatment would take several days to work. She likes to say “remember I told you”. This was incorrect information anyway as treatment plan should not have taken over 24 hours to take effect. Furthermore, she even tried to shame me financially. When finally trying to get a second opinion from a new vet, she attempted to shame me there as well. Thankfully it didn’t work. Overall, this is a bad practice with a lack of care, thoughtfulness, and possibly knowledge. Dr. O did not see the urgency of my senior dog's case, did not treat it as an emergency, and sadly it was. I strongly advise against visiting Newport Harbor Animal Hospital. Side note- the technician failed to administer PAIN medication properly and it was found stuck in her tooth. Also, when I picked her up, after suffering silently all day, I noticed her little bottom and tail had dried feces stuck to it. I was unable to clean well as it was too painful.

In November 2021, Dr. Mark McDaniel with the help of the staff at Newport Harbor Animal Hospital and consultation from some of the other vets there saved our doggy baby Lily from pericardial effusion and transferred her to Pacific Care Pet Emergency since Newport Harbor was not open 24/7 to handle a case like Lily's. Nevertheless, they stabilized Lily so that she could be brought to 24/7 emergency care at Pacific Care and identified the pericardial effusion. Lily lived fighting off the associated non-preventable heart disease for another nearly 2 years. Thank you so much, Dr McDaniel and everyone else during that period, from Beach Paws Pet Salon that brought her after she collapsed during grooming, to Pacific Care and Coast-to-Coast Cardiology for bringing Lily to a point where she could come home, have a good quality of life, and live for another nearly 2 years.

I have too many details to share here, so I’ll just say I’m so happy I found NHAH. I was referred by an ER Vet to Dr Wade. I’ve found they hire the cream of the crop for Vets, front office and technicians. My wonderful loving rescued cat would have been put down if not for them. The big difference, besides skill, is they care so much and treat every patient as if it’s their own loved one. I can’t say enough good about this place.

Squeezed my pup in on a holiday weekend. Such a good experience, they run a smooth operation and the staff was so nice. For example, they brought my bill to me in the exam room so it was easier for me to take my woozy dog straight to the car. A+!
